George Proffitt

Services for Mr. George Proffitt, 90, of Memphis, TX will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Church of Christ with Tom Anderson, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. George passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 in Memphis, TX. George was born October 29, 1920 in Paris, TX to the late Mr. Rutherford Proffitt and Mrs. Bessie (Sims) Proffitt. He attended schools in Giles, TX. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. While serving in the service his rank was Seaman First Class. He married Mary Jo Lowe on June 14, 1944 in Clarendon, TX. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2006. George was a farmer until retiring on October 1, 1985. He was a member of the Church of Christ. George has resided in Hall County since 1946. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Proffitt and one sister, Katherine Proffitt. He is survived by two sons, Don Proffitt and wife Janet of Amarillo, TX; Gary Proffitt and wife Amanda of Estelline, TX; one daughter, Joan Whitten and husband Warren of Memphis, TX; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The family suggest memorials be made to the Meals on Wheels, 202 South 8th St., Memphis, TX 79245 or a Favorite Charity.
