Services for Bertha Eckles, 92, of Canadian, Texas, will be at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Golden, officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, Texas. Mrs. Eckles passed away on Friday, June 1, 2007 in Canadian, Texas. Bertha was born on October 13, 1914 in Hemphill County to the late Mr. George Keahey and Mrs Eva Choat Keahey. She attended school in Hemphill County. She married Bryan Eckles of October 12, 1933 in Wheeler, TX. He preceded her in death February 22, 1996. Bertha was a life long resident of Hemphill County where she ran the school lunch room for Canadian ISD for 15 years until retiring. She was also a member of the 50’s plus club and the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Bertha is survived by two sons, Sparky Eckles and wife Barbara of Spur, TX; Benny Eckles and wife Colleen of Plano, TX; one daughter, Joy House Dreyer and husband Robert of Amarillo, TX; nine grandchildren, Larry House of Dallas, TX; Denise House Ward and husband Lindsay of Kingwood, TX; Sheri Paloma of North Carolina; Dedra Eckles Driggers and husband Trent and Audra Eckles Bryant and husband Todd all of Snyder, TX; Melissa Eckles Burson and husband Jimmy and Jennifer Eckles Bridges and husband Stacy all of Haskell, TX; Jamie Eckles and Nicole Eckles both of Plano, TX and 19 great-grandchildren.
