Services for Mrs. Bea Moon, 96, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Sanders, officiating. Burial will be Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Bea passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 in Canadian, TX. Bea was born April 13, 1915 in Mineral, TX to the late Mr. Dan Cryer Sr. and Mrs. Beatrice (Brown) Cryer. She went to grammar school in a one room school house in Clarkwood, TX and graduated from Robstown High School in Robstown, TX. She received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1939 from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, TX. She then went to do post graduate studies at Columbia University in New York, NY where she received a degree in Art Education. She married Troy William Moon on June 1, 1941 in Clarkwood, TX. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1997. Bea was a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge, Arts and Craft Club and a founding member of the Sage Brush Painters. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Judith B. Moon, her brother, Lt. Dan Chester Cryer Jr. and her sister, Maude Evelyn Cryer. She is survived by her daughter, Linda E. Moon and son-in-law, Jack Flagg of Houston, TX; her sister, Barbara C. Dennis of Robstown, TX; her grandson, CMDR. James Troy Reid, USN Res and wife Tara and great-grandchild, Michael James Reid all of Austin, TX. The family suggests memorials to the Edward Abraham Memorial Home, 803 Birch, Canadian, TX 79014 or Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
