Services for Burl Benge, 76, of Canadian, Texas, will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Monte Kreis, officiating and son-in-law Sturdy Wanamaker giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, Texas. Mr. Benge passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in Canadian, Texas. Burl was born February 16, 1931 in Chickasha, OK to the late Mr. Alec Benge and Mrs. Ollie Overturff Benge. He was a graduate of Miami High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Vona Brooks on April 11, 1954 at the First Christian Church in Canadian, TX. He worked for many years as a building contractor. Burl was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Miami, TX. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hollen, Alvin and his twin brother Murl and three sisters, Lee, Juanita and Pauline. He is survived by his wife, Vona Benge of Canadian, TX; one son, Doug Benge and wife Karlyn of Canadian, TX; one daughter, Tammy Wanamaker and husband Sturdy of Georgetown, TX; three grandchildren, Joshua Benge and fiancé Rene of Ft. Hood, TX; Sydni Benge and Cameron Benge both of Canadian, TX; one great grandson, Caleb Benge of Flora, IN; three sister-in-laws, Coda Benge of California, Georgia Benge of Amarillo, TX; Inez Benge of Lubbock, TX; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and the Brooks family. The family suggests memorials to the Edward Abraham Memorial Home, 803 Birch, Canadian, TX 79014.
