Betty Ruth Beard

Graveside services for Betty Beard, 85, of Lipscomb, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Lipscomb Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Betty passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Brownwood, TX. Betty was born February 5, 1927 in Vici, OK to the late Mr. Morris and Lillie Merydith. She graduated from Higgins High School and attended Amarillo College to study journalism. In 1947, she moved to Woodward, OK to work as a reporter at the Woodward Daily News. While working there she met her future husband Don Beard. They were married on June 6, 1948, in Lipscomb, TX. She was preceded in death by her brother, William M. Merydith. She is survived by her husband, Don Beard of Brownwood, TX; her daughter, Monica Beard of Brownwood, TX and Dallas, TX. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 15, from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Hughs Funeral Home, 203 South 3rd St. The family suggests memorials to National Parkinson Foundation Gift Processing Center, P.O.
