Memorial service for Buddy Hobdy, 84, of Canadian, TX will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew McCurley, officiating and Ben Mathers and Jeff Gallaway, assisting. A private inurnment will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Buddy passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 in Canadian, TX. Buddy was born August 29, 1928 in Canadian, TX to the late Mr. R.M. Hobdy and Mrs. Toy (Carver) Hobdy. He was a 1946 graduate of Canadian High School. He also attended West Texas State University. He married Barbara (Coonrod) on June 16, 1949 in Pampa, TX. She preceded him in death on March 24, 1965. He then married Betty Miller on November 6, 1965 in Amarillo, TX. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2008. Buddy went to work for the family business which was Hobdy Motor that his father founded in 1933. He worked from 1951 until retiring in December of 2000. Buddy was a past member of the Canadian Lions Club and the Canadian Volunteer Fire Department and he also served on the Edward Abraham Memorial Home Board. He was also involved in the building of the Canadian Golf Course. Buddy has been a member of First Baptist Church since 1940. He is survived by two sons, Bill Hobdy and wife Kay of Canadian, TX; Kim Morgan and wife Lori of San Diego, CA; three daughters, Deborah Anderson and husband Jim Bill of Canadian, TX; Jody Purser and husband Gary of Amarillo, TX; Amy Woodside and husband Glen of Canadian, TX; his brother, Tom Hobdy and wife Sue of Montgomery, TX; 13 grandchildren, Luke Thrasher, Lindy Cullers, Jill Young, Brooke Ward, Wes Purser, Julie Harper, Todd Ridgway, Chaz Rutledge, Joseph Morgan, Macy Woodside, Marcus Woodside, Alicia Milhous and Morgan Lakner, 21 great-grandchildren, one niece, Alicia Hall and husband Randy, one nephew, Harold Pack and wife Annette. The family suggests memorials sent to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
