A memorial service for Mrs. Frances Eddie Beck Harrison, 99, of Memphis, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Memphis, with Rev. Daniel Downey officiating and Dr. O. K. Bowen assisting. A private graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery with The Rev. Canon Wm. D. Nix, Jr. officiating. Services are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, Texas. Frances Eddie passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013, in Shamrock, Texas. Frances Eddie was born on February 22, 1914, in Sylvester, Texas, to the late Ed B. Beck and Molie Sparks Beck. She attended school in Sylvester and graduated in 1932 as valedictorian of Hamlin High School. She then attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1936. While attending Hardin Simmons University, Frances Eddie was a charter member of the Hardin Simmons Cowgirl Association. After graduating, she taught school for three years for Rotan ISD. Frances Eddie then married Thomas Wendell Harrison on February 3, 1940, in Abilene, Texas. They moved to Memphis in 1946 after Wendell served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Frances Eddie was a homemaker and then taught school for 29 years for Memphis ISD. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Memphis, Texas. Wendell preceded her in death on July 7, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jim Beck, her sisters, Grace Carothers, Shi Beck, Rose Simmons and Jonsula McKinney. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Harrison Baxter, and husband, Ken, of Shamrock, Texas; four grandchildren: Paige Elizabeth Parks of Rockwall, Texas, Murphy Harrison Parks and wife, Amanda, of Fort Worth, Texas, Annabelle Baxter of Dallas, Texas, and Hugh Baxter of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Hilburn Parks and Olivia Maren Parks, both of Fort Worth, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks for the wonderful and loving care Frances Eddie received during the last six years at Shamrock General Hospital Assisted Living with thanks and gratitude to the physicians and nursing staff. Very special thanks to Michelle Bryant and her team of caregivers.
