Services for Carl J. (Guy) Folley, 92, of Canadian, TX will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew McCurley, officiating. Burial will follow in the Miami Cemetery in Miami, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Guy went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in Canadian, TX. Guy was born in Donley County, TX near McLean, TX on March 29, 1921. He was the eighth of nine children born to the late Mr. George P. Folley and Mrs. Minta James Folley. Guy married his sweetheart, Nettie Leola Talley on May 18, 1940, in Wheeler, TX. She preceded him in death on November 17, 1999. The two had a daughter, Rena Carol, born in 1943. Guy was being a cowboy when he was called into duty during World War II. He served in the Army Infantry in Manila, Philippines. Shortly after Guy was drafted, his son John Guy was born in 1945. After his service to his country, Guy continued to cowboy, becoming Ranch Foreman for the Hitch Ranch near Hitchland, TX. When a revival meeting was held near the ranch in 1951, Guy confessed faith in Jesus and began his lifelong walk with the Lord. In 1953, Guy went to work for Phillips Petroleum. After a few moves around the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, the family settled in Canadian in 1964. Guy was active in Sunday school and a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Canadian. He also served as a City Council member from 1979-1985. Guy was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. His outgoing and hospitable personality made him a friend to many. He is survived by his daughter, Rena Johnson and husband Robert of Atlanta, GA; his son, John Guy Folley and wife Linda of Canadian, TX; three granddaughters, Tammy Hursey of Atlanta, GA; Stacy Meyer of San Antonio, TX; Michele Mastick of Fort Worth, TX; four great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. The family suggests memorials to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014 or First Baptist Church, 706 Main St., Canadian, TX 79014.
