Services for Mary Lorene Burton, 93, of Amarillo, TX formerly of Canadian will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Darrell Burton, officiating and Doug and Larry Mote, assisting. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Lorene passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 in Amarillo, TX. Lorene was born September 16, 1920 to the late Mr. Bingham Massey and Mrs. Laura (Taylor) Massey. She was a 1937 graduate of San Jon High School in San Jon, NM. She married Norman Burton on May 16, 1940, in San Jon, NM. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2010. They moved to Claude before they settled in Hemphill County near Canadian. Lorene worked as the Hemphill County Treasurer for 20 plus years. They moved to Amarillo in 2006 from Canadian. While living in Canadian she was a member of the First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. She is survived by four sons; Dorland Burton and wife Ann of Stratford, TX; Oran Burton and wife Ann of Stinnett, TX; Shelby Burton and wife Sue of Stratford, TX; Duval Burton and wife Shirley of Spearman, TX; two brothers, Jim Massey and wife Edith and Frank Massey and wife Evelyn all of Tucumcari, NM; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
