Graveside services for Chris Babitzke Jr., 92, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Donald Hill, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Chris passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 in Canadian, TX. Chris was born February 27, 1922 in Lipscomb County to the late Mr. Chris Babitzke Sr. and Mrs. Christiana (Koch) Babitzke. He attended schools at Plum Creek. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He married Evelyn Appel on February 26, 1944 in Arnett, OK. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2008. They moved to Canadian in 1976 from Glazier, TX. He has been a rancher his entire life. He was a member of the American Legion Kiowa Post # 635 in Darrouzett, TX. He was also a member of The River Ministries Church. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, 4 sisters and his son-in-law, Bill Meek. He is survived by his son, Dickie Babitzke and wife Debbie of Darrouzett, TX; his daughter, Joyce Meek of Durham, OK; his sister, Erna Gragert of Glendale, AZ; five grandchildren, Tamara Jones, Tonya Ervin, Angela Marquez, Chris Meek, Delf Meek and 9 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
