Services for Mr. R.E. George, 85, of Canadian, Texas, will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Willie George, officiating and Pastor John George and Rev. Monte Kreis, assisting. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, Texas. Mr. George passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 in Canadian, Texas. R.E. was born October 21, 1923 on the George Ranch in Hemphill County to the late Mr. Roy George and Irene (Gunter) George. He attended grammar school on the Alexander ranch, called Cataline, and was a graduate of Canadian High School. He was a life-long resident of Hemphill County. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He married Fannye Bussell on September 21, 1944 in Arnett, OK. He worked for a number of years for Mobil Oil as a consignee. He was also owner and operator of the family ranch. R.E. was co-founder of 4-H & FFA Booster Club and Canadian Jr. Riding Club. He was also a member for 30 years of the Canadian Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, Texas & Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, National Cattleman’s Associations, and past board member at the Edward Abraham Memorial Home. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ferne George Vise. He is survived by his wife, Fannye George of Canadian, TX; one daughter, Sue Lynn Krehbiel of Canadian, TX; one brother, Bill George of Conroe, TX; two grandchildren, Stacy Conway and husband Gary of Panhandle, TX; Seth Fiel and wife Paula of Abilene, TX; four great-grandchildren, Cheston Channell and Braydon Fiel both of Abilene, TX; Will Conway and Wyatt Conway both of Panhandle, TX. The family suggests memorials to the Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S. 4th St. Canadian, TX 79014, Lone Star Angel Project, P.O .Box 303, Canadian, TX 79014 or favorite charity.
