James V. Shepherd

Graveside Services for James “Jay” V. Shepherd, 84, of Houston, TX, formerly of Memphis, TX, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX, with Rev. Gary Boles officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mr. Shepherd passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 in Houston, TX. He was born on September 10, 1921 in Brice, TX to the late W.E. Shepherd and Tilda (Munsey) Shepherd. He grew up Lakeview, TX and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1942. He served in the United States Air Force as a Radio Operator from 1942 until 1946, at which time he moved to Memphis, TX. Mr. Shepherd married Betty Sue Crump on September 13, 1947 in Memphis. They moved to Amarillo, TX in 1951, where he worked as a Dental Lab Technician at the Air Force Base and for the Veteran’s Administration at the VA Hospital. While in Amarillo, he was a member of the San Jacinto United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Mr. Shepherd moved to Houston, TX in 2000. He was a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church in Houston. He loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Webb Shepherd in April of 1990; a grandson, Sean Shepherd in 1998; three brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by his wife Betty of Houston, TX; one daughter, Susan Shepherd Carpenter of Houston, TX; one son, Barry Edd Shepherd of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Jason Caine Carpenter of Houston, TX; Lisa Ann Shepherd of California; and Summer Shepherd of Amarillo, TX; a sister-in-law, Lucille Godfrey of Memphis, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
