Graveside services for Floyd Murry, 91, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX with Dr. Dean English, officiating, assisted by Mike Heatwole. Services are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Murry died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 in Canadian, TX. Mr. Murry was born on October 15, 1914 in Floydada, TX to the late Mr. Otis Murry and Mrs. Clara Day Murry. He was a graduate of Floydada High School and West Texas State University. While attending the University he made Who’s Who in football. Floyd married Marie Mitchell on October 19, 1935 in Floydada, TX. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1996. Floyd started coaching in the state of New Mexico, and later moved to Stinett, TX. From Stinett, he moved to Floydada, TX. In the mid 1940’s he moved to Canyon, TX. He was later the head coach in Perryton, TX from 1945 to 1950, then in Canyon from 1950 to 1953. He moved to California in 1953 where he was in business with his brother-in-law. He also taught and coached in Orange, CA for a year before moving to Plainview, TX where he taught and coached until 1971. In 1971, Floyd moved to Canadian, TX, where he was a counselor from 1971 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Church of Christ and Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Lloyd Murry, and one great-grandson. He is survived by one son, Dr. Mitch Murry and wife Twila Murry of Amarillo, TX; three daughters, Donna Holland of Howard, CO; Marieta Autry and husband Gary of Perryton, TX; Jan McGinness and husband Rodger of Big Bear City, CA; eight grandchildren, Tammy Heck of Casper, WY; Toni Hoskinson of Denver, CO; David Murry of Amarillo, TX; Jimmy Autry of Albuquerque, NM; Johnny Autry of Clovis, NM; Becci Hutto of Pampa, TX; Ami Campbell of Amarillo, TX; Micah Rupprecht of Big bear City, CA; and 19 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Edward Abraham Memorial Home, 803 Birch, Canadian, TX 79014 or a Favorite Charity.
