Memorial service for Perry Landers, 96, of Higgins, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. C. Lane Boyd, Chaplin at Craig Senior Living Community, officiating and Rev. Blake Durham, assisting. A private burial will be in the Higgins Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Perry passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Perry was born May 6, 1919 in Higgins, TX to the late Mr. Roy Landers and Mrs. Edna (Maltsberger) Landers. He was a 1937 graduate of Higgins High School. He went on to attend West Texas State University in Canyon. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corp serving in World War II in England. He married Mary Bess Bagwell on January 3, 1942 in Clayton, TX. She preceded him in death in February of 1990. After the war, he joined the family business with his brother, Russell and father, Roy. This business, Landers Oil and Propane, is still in operation and was recognized as one of the longest operating businesses in Texas, at over 104 years old. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion. For the past three years Perry lived at the Craig Senior Living Community in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Landers. He is survived by his children, Joe Landers and wife Cheryl of Amarillo, TX; Holly Gutierrez and husband Jim of Amarillo, TX; Rocky Landers of Highlands, TX; 7 grandchildren, Joseph, Mizanne, Joe Perry, Kenda, Andy, Laci and Mary Seth; five great-grandchildren are also held in high regards, Forest, Raven, Parker, Lily and Jayden; his sister-in-law, Doris, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. They were all in his thoughts. He wanted to remember a special friend, Bill Hunt and two caring and attentive nephews, John and Paul. The family suggests memorials to BSA Hospice, 600 North Tyler, Amarillo, TX 79107 or First United Methodist Church, 220 Main St., Higgins, TX 79046.
