Services for Mrs. Lucile West Burnett, 92, of Memphis, TX will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Smith, retired pastor of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo, TX, officiating and Rev. Robert G. Blum, assisting . Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Lucille went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Baptist Saint Anthony Hospital in Amarillo after suffering complications following hip surgery. She was born August 3, 1916 in Hall County, TX to the late Mr. Edward West and Mrs. Callie (Grimes) West. She was a 1930 graduate of Memphis High School. At the age of 13 she was the second youngest to graduate at that age in the United States. She then went on to attended Draughons Business College. She married Barney Lee Burnett on February 12, 1939 in Memphis, TX. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1976. Lucile worked 34 years for First National Bank until retiring in 1985. During her time at First National Bank she worked for six different Presidents. She was hired in 1950 by President Thos E. Noel and worked for T.H. Deaver, Jack I. Davis, Ben Parks, Larry Parks and Ronnie Parks. Through the years Lucile worked in various positions, secretary, note department and teller. In 1970 she was promoted to Assistant Cashier. In 1982, she was promoted to the position of Assistant Vice President. Prior to serving at First National Bank, Lucile worked in the County Agent’s office and the A.A.A. for six years. She had also worked part-time in the County Clerk’s office and County Tax Assessor-Collector office. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Group and Memphis Business Women’s Club. She was a long time resident of Hall County and lived in the Pleasant Valley Community in her early years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lamar and Jake West and one sister, Hester Bownds. She is survived by one daughter, Audrey Beth Garland and husband Jimmy of Goodnight, TX; two grandchildren, Stanton Lynn Garland and wife Jamie of Waco, TX; Twanna Kiker and husband Richie of Allison, TX; four great-grandchildren, Matt and Kaylynn Kiker both of Allison, TX; Diedra Troutman and husband Mason of Amarillo, TX and Dustin Broom of Waco, TX; her sister-in-law Clara Burnett Holcomb of Amarillo, TX; her nephews, Jimmie Bownds of Memphis, TX; Fletcher Bownds of Roy, WA; Lloyd West of Lake Villa, MI; Coy West of Dallas, TX; Gayle West of Krum, TX; Bennie West of Hitchcock, TX; her nieces, Gladys Harris of Amarillo, TX; Betty Burnett Patton of Carlsbad, NM and numerous great nieces and nephews. The family suggest memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 121 N 8th St., Memphis, TX 79245.
