Services for Bell Sweatt Hughes, 78, of Estelline, TX, will be at 3:00 PM on Monday, March 20, 2006 at Hughs Memorial Chapel in Memphis, TX, with Tom Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mrs. Hughes passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006 in Decatur, TX. She was born on June 22, 1927 in the Buck Creek Community in Collingsworth County, TX to the late Mr. Robert Vernon Sweatt and Iola (Bell) Sweatt. She attended schools in King, Quail, Newlin and Estelline. She graduated from Estelline High School in 1943. After attending West Texas State Teacher's College, Mrs. Hughes taught school in Memphis, Lakeview, Turkey, Estelline and McLean, retiring in 1987. She married Nathan Hughes on June 4, 1949 in Childress, TX. They lived in and near Newlin for many years. She moved to Childress in 1986 and lived briefly in Estelline in 2003. Mrs. Hughes lived the last two years of her life in nursing homes in Memphis and Decatur. She was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on July 14, 1976 and three brothers, Tom, Bob and John Warren. She is survived by two daughters, Anne Dumboski of Ft. Worth, TX and Susan Dolan of Midland, TX; two sons, Mike Hughes of Estelline, TX and Pat Hughes of Rankin, TX; one brother, Don Sweatt of Ft. Worth, TX; eleven grandchildren, Doug and Andy Dumboski, Jennifer Miller, Cindy Harrelson, Leslie Dolan, Clint, Matt, Holly, Nathan, Brandon and Jamie Hughes; and seven great grandchildren, Adam and Nicholas Harrelson, Evan Caldwell, Brian and Allison Miller and Gabriel and Natalia Dumboski. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174, or Westview Boys Home, P.O. Box 553, Hollis, OK 73550.
