Rosary services for Maria Ortega, 90, of Amarillo ,TX formerly of Canadian, TX will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Salibindla Bala Showreddy, Officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Ortega passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 in Amarillo, Texas. Maria was born February 11, 1919 in Canadian, TX to the late Mr. Pablo Macias and Mrs. Maria Ramirez Macias. She attended schools in Canadian. She married Esidro “Pete” Ortega Sr. on April 18, 1949. While living in Canadian she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and later became a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Amarillo. She is preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by two sons, Esidro “Dean” Ortega Jr. and wife Stephanie of Austin, TX; Pablo Antonio “Paul” Ortega Sr.and wife Barbara of Texas City, TX; one daughter, Susan Ortega of Amarillo, TX; three brothers, Mack Macias and Justo Macias both of Canadian, TX; Alex Macias of Guymon, OK; two sisters, Jane Macias of Perryton, TX; Eblan Hernandez of Pampa, TX; three grandchildren, Gabrielle “Tacha” Ortega-Brown of Austin, TX; Pablo Antonio “Tony” Ortega Jr. of Amarillo, TX; Mercedes Ortega of Texas City, TX and 1 great-grandchild, Luke Brown of Austin, TX. Viewing will be available at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 804 Kingman Ave. in Canadian.
