Memorial services for Bettye Ward, 82, of Canadian, TX will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Church of Christ in Canadian, TX with Shawn Davis officiating and Dr. Dean English assisting. Inurnment will be at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Ward died Thursday, March 30, 2006 in Canadian, TX. She was born on July 4, 1923 in Asher, OK to the late Mr. Ernest McAfee and Mrs. Violet Harris McAfee. She attended grammar school in Bowlegs, OK and was a 1941 graduate of Pampa High School. She married Bob R. Ward on October 15, 1947 in Amarillo, TX. Bettye and Bob moved to Canadian, TX in 1947 from Pampa, TX. She crocheted hundreds of afghans and Christmas socks, delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Edward Abraham Memorial Home. Bettye was a avid bridge player, loved her grandchildren, enjoyed decorating her home and crocheted caps for the Evelyn Rivers project. She was also a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Jon McAfee and one granddaughter, Jacqueline Ward. She is survived by her husband, Bob R. Ward of Canadian, TX; one son, Kelley Ward and wife Ruth of Canadian, TX; one daughter, Kay Ward of Brighton, CO; a special daughter, Kay Abraham Brown of Canadian, TX; five grandchildren, Krystal Dickinson and husband Ty of Canadian, TX; Kris Sanchez and husband Javier of Canadian, TX; Lisa White of Amarillo, TX; Shelby Ward and Rachel Ward both of Brighton, CO; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Dickinson and Mya Sanchez both of Canadian, TX. The family suggests memorials be to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S. 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
