Wayne Rankin

Wayne Rankin, 80, of Canadian, died December 14, 2016 in Canadian. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, December 16, 2016, at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery, with Bo Rankin and Charlie Rankin, Wayne’s nephews, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian. Mr. Rankin was born November 25, 1936 in Lamb County to Arthur and Eunice Webb Rankin. He had been a resident of the Canadian area since the early 1950’s. Wayne was a cowboy, working for Ben Hill, Jim Streeter, Dorsey Tubb, Rudolph Rankin and the Webb Ranch. He was hardworking, strong, independent and ethical. Wayne was humble, thoughtful, and perceptive of others. He was musically inclined, playing four different instruments. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he was a sharpshooter. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, JoNell Lynskey; and two brothers, Glen Rankin and Paul Rankin. Survivors include a daughter, Ontje Dowlen of Amarillo; two grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Wuthrich of Lubbock, Lilly McCoy and husband Gayle of Spade, Nina Smith and Lola Beth Reed and husband Gary, all of Olton; three brothers, Rudolph Rankin and wife Lynda of Miami, James Rankin and wife Wanda of Canadian, and Jay Rankin and wife Barbara of Freedom, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces and nephews.
