Rosary services for Roy A. “Dick” Dickinson, 90, of Canadian, Texas will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Gary Jahnel, Officiating and Rev. Donald Hill, Assisting. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Dickinson passed away Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Canadian, TX. Dick was born August 4, 1919 in Mangum, OK to the late Mr. Andrew Pickens Dickinson and Mrs. Martha Minerva (Boone) Dickinson. He attended Zybach schools in Wheeler County. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. Dick was stationed in Germany where he served as driver of an artillery half track. He married Laura Lee Snyder on May 14, 1946 in Canadian, TX. She preceded him in death on November 12, 1977. He later married Evelyn Carr on August 9, 1980 in Canadian, TX. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2007. He worked as a ranch hand and foreman for Alexander’s, Webb’s, Bower’s, McMordie’s and Begert’s ranches. Dick was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the Sacred heart Catholic Church. He is survived by two sons, Roy D. “Buddy” Dickinson and wife Brenda and Bob Dickinson and wife Beverly all of Canadian, TX; one daughter, Carol Ruth Cannady and husband Dennis of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Susie Parkey and husband Tom of Oklahoma City, OK; two step sons, Robert Carr and wife Julie of Holdenville, OK; Dale Carr of Canadian, TX; three step daughters, Tex Satterwhite and husband Don of Higgins, OK; Noreen Rux and husband Richard of Archer City, TX; Carol Ann Wilson and husband George of Canadian, TX; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014. Viewing will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
