Genevieve "Gennie" Murdock

Services for Mrs. Genevieve “Gennie” Murdock, 92, of Memphis, TX will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 23, 2009 at Fairview Cemetery Chapel with Tom Posey, officiating and Tom Anderson, assisting. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Mrs. Murdock passed away Friday, November 20, 2009 in Memphis, TX. Gennie was born October 5, 1917 in Garvin County, OK to the late Mr. Fred Allen West and Mrs. Lily Edith (Brown) West. She was a 1936 graduate of Woodland High School in Davis, OK. She married Elmer Jessie Murdock on September 4, 1937 in Davis, OK. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1971. They moved along with their five children to Hall County, TX in December of 1948 from Pauls Valley, OK. The family was employed as farm laborers. First with brother-in-law, A.P. Bruton, than Barney Burnett and later Cecil Stargel. After Elmer’s death, Gennie did ironing for the public as well as worked with Mrs. Barber and Mrs. Yarbrough cooking for the Memphis Lion’s Club and other civic organizations. She enjoyed her association with the Fairview Cemetery Association until her failing health put her in the Memphis Convalescent Home in May of 2001, where she lived until her passing. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Dale Murdock on March 17, 2006 and three stillborn grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Allen “Sonny” Murdock and wife Billie Jean of Memphis, TX; Jessie Wayne Murdock and close friend Debbie of Clarendon, TX; two daughters, Edith Rodgers and husband Chester of Memphis, TX; Mary Ellen Cook and Husband Jim of Amarillo, TX; one sister, Mary Groover and husband Forrest of Ardmore, OK; her daughter-in-law, Jeannie Murdock of Fort Worth, TX; six grandchildren, Allen Murdock of Memphis, TX; Chawn, Jimmie and Lindsey Cook all of Amarillo, TX; Stacy Schooler of Hurst, TX and Wesley Dale Murdock, six great-grandchildren, one nephew, Jesse Murdock of Mineola, TX; four nieces, Dudley Mae Sinclair of Sherman, TX; Lorene King of Seagraves, TX; Muriel Dilbeck of Paris, TX; Christene Lindsey of Port Richie, FL. The family suggest memorials be made to Fairview Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 265, Memphis, TX 79245. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Hughs Funeral Home, 514 N 10th St., Memphis, TX 79245.
