Services for Mattie Ponder, 88, of Memphis, TX, will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Jackie Blum, officiating. Burial will follow in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, TX. Mrs. Ponder passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009 in Amarillo, TX. She was born November 11, 1921 in Sachse, TX to the late Mr. Cleburne Rogers and Mrs. Gertrude (Holt) Rogers. She attended schools in Illinois Bend, TX. She married Leslie Hiram Ponder on August 18, 1940 in Love County, OK. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1960. They moved to Brice, TX in 1941 from Illinois Bend, TX. Mattie worked for Burlington Industries and later worked in the meat market for 25 plus years for Thriftway Grocery Store. She was a member of Travis Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Paul Ponder on August 16, 2000, one brother, Haskell Rogers and three sisters, Lela Bell Lynn, Violet Mae Paschall and Oline Espey. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Ivy and husband Charles of Memphis, TX; Wyvon Seal and husband Doug of Wellington, TX; her daughter-in-law, Jone Ponder of Memphis, TX; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
