Graveside services for Mrs. Julia H. White, 97, of Canadian, TX formerly of Amarillo, TX will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Miami Cemetery in Miami, TX with Dr. Dean English, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. White passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 in Canadian, TX. Julia was born October 19, 1912 in Miami, TX to the late Mr. Charles Hamilton and Mrs. Elsie (Hickman) Dial. She was raised by her mother and step-father Addran Dial. She was a 1930 graduate of Miami High School. She then went on to attend Amarillo College and Amarillo Secretarial College. She married Charles White on April 5, 1953 in Portales, NM. He preceded her in death in July of 1975. She worked as a secretary for American Smelting and Refining Company in Amarillo, TX for 25 years until retiring in 1975. After retiring Julia became a doll crafter and collector, a hat designer and maker; she has painted, done ceramics, and made beautiful outfits, many which were designed by herself. She was a member of the Diligent Doll Makers of Amarillo. Julia was appointed to serve on the state membership committee of the National Secretaries Association International. She also served as past vice-president of the Palo Duro chapter of the association in Amarillo, TX. Julia also served as Palo Duro Chapter membership chairman, inter-chapter correspondent, as assistant editor of “The Tumbleweed,” chapter bulletin, and on the finance committee. On April 25, 1963 she received Secretary of the Year. She was also a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, TX. She is survived by three nephews, Dennis Dial of Argyle, TX; Joe Dial and wife Dawn of Canadian, TX; Danny McDowell of Amarillo, TX; two nieces, Kathleen Dial of San Marcus, TX; Mary Taniguchi and husband Reuben of Crowley, TX. The family suggests memorials be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
