Graveside services for J. L. Whitley, Jr., 77, of Glazier, TX will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the Glazier Cemetery in Glazier, TX with Wayne Baker, officiating. Services are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Whitley passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2006 in Glazier, TX. He was born on July 6, 1929 in Elk City, OK to the late Mr. James Lester Whitley, Sr. and Mrs. Dona Wolf Whitley. He attended schools in Rotan, TX. J.L. married Leila Louise Trice on April 6, 1967 in Canadian, TX. Mr. Whitley worked for the City of Canadian until retirement in 1998. After retirement, J.L. continued to work as a handyman, cowboy, and in the lawn service throughout Glazier and the surrounding area. He was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Whitley. He is survived by his wife, Leila Whitley of Glazier, TX; one stepdaughter, Brenda Atteberry and husband Paul of Floydada, TX; six brothers, Ossie Whitley of Rotan, TX, Wayne Whitley of Granbury, TX, Bennie Whitley of Santo, TX, Gerald Don Whitley of Clyde, TX, Stevie Whitley of Fort Worth, TX, and Danny Whitley of Waco, TX; five sisters, Charlene Starnes of Snyder, TX, Fern Starnes of Rotan, TX, Margaret Kingston of Denton, TX, Sue Spivey of Santo, TX, and Mary Upshaw of Colorado City, TX, one granddaughter, and three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
