Clara Harvey McMurry

Graveside Services for Clara Harvey McMurry, 92, of Childress, TX, will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel in Memphis, TX, with Tom Posey officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mrs. McMurry passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 in Childress, TX. She was born on December 18, 1913 in Chillicothe, TX to the late Mr. Owen B. Harvey and Mrs. Minnie O. (Hopkins) Harvey. She grew up in Shamrock, TX and graduated from Shamrock High School in 1932. She graduated from West Texas State University in 1936. She married Holland Bruce McMurry on June 12, 1938 in Shamrock, TX. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1997. Mrs. McMurry taught school for one year at Tatum, New Mexico. She and her husband farmed for many years in the Plaska area and moved to Memphis in 1968, where she was a member of First Baptist Church. They moved to Childress in 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and a grandson-in-law, Russell Lemons. She is survived by two sons, Doyle Ray McMurry and wife Peggy of Clinton, OK; and Rev. Harvey E. and wife Dr. Berta McMurry of Wichita Falls, TX; six grandchildren, Sheila McMurry-Lemons of Oklahoma City, OK; Tammy McMurry of Wichita Falls, TX; David McMurry and wife Kate of Portland, OR; Ward McMurry and wife Jennifer of Henrietta, TX; Lori Ballard and husband Ronny of Midlothian, TX; and Doyl McMurry and wife Robin of Joy, TX; and six great grandchildren, Megan, Mackenzie and Kaden Ballard; Tyler and Brooklyn McMurry and Whitley McMurry. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:30 am on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Turner Nursing Home, 1610 Ave. G NW, Childress, TX 79201, Childress Healthcare Center, 1200 7th St. NW, Childress, TX 79201, or the church of your choice.
