Services for Ruby Phillips Roden, 96, of Memphis, TX, will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Memphis, TX, with Robert Byrd officiating, assisted by Rev. Daniel Downey. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mrs. Roden passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 in Amarillo, TX. She was born on February 28, 1910 in Newlin, TX to the late Mr. Adrin Phillips and Mrs. Lucy (Jones) Phillips. She grew up in Newlin, TX and graduated from Newlin High School. She later attended Hardin-Simmons University and graduated from West Texas Teachers College. She married Grover Jason Roden on December 22, 1929. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1978. Mrs. Roden worked for more than twenty years at the ASCS Office and served as the Hall County Justice of the Peace for twenty-two and a half years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Darrell Roden on July 3, 1988, and one brother, Alvin Phillips. She is survived by five grandchildren, Debbie Blades and husband Darrel of Canyon, TX; Holly Rush and husband Kevin of Forney, TX; Michael Roden and wife Rhonda of Amarillo, TX; ZAnn Messer and husband Terry of Seymour, TX; and Leigh Ann Hawthorne and husband Dan of Memphis, TX; Alice Kay and Jimmy Roden of Lubbock, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
