Graveside services for LaVelle Sanders, 76, of Canadian, TX will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX with Rev. Donald Hill, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Sanders passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2006 in Lubbock, TX. She was born on November 6, 1929 in Tucumcari, NM to the late Mr. Ora Davis and Mrs. Lila Williams Davis. She attended schools in Tucumcari, NM. She married Mazo Sanders on April 3, 1951 in Tucumcari, NM. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1989. They moved to Canadian, TX in 1972 from Miami, TX. LaVelle worked as a custodian for Canadian Elementary for 20 years. She also owned and operated a restaurant called The Midget, where she was well known throughout the community for her famous homemade pies. LaVelle attended the First Baptist Church and Believers Covenant. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewight Davis and Bill Davis. She is survived by one son, Jerry Sanders of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Linda Marak of Lubbock, TX; two sisters, Anna Cates of Odessa, TX; Mary Simons of Lubbock, TX; eight grandchildren, Michelle Brooks and husband David of Lubbock, TX; Trenton Marak of Lubbock, TX; Holly Sanders, Olivia Sanders, Adam Sanders, Jordan Sanders, Austin Sanders all of Kennebunk, ME; Michael Davis of Houston, TX.
