Services for Mr. Kenneth Dale, 85, of Memphis, TX, will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 14, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Downey, officiating and Dr. O.K. Bowen, assisting. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Mr. Dale passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 in Amarillo, TX. Kenneth was born January 2, 1925 in Irene, TX to the late Mr. James Dale and Mrs. Laura (Pittman) Dale. He attended grammar school in Irene, TX and was a 1943 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard serving in World War II. He married Phyllis Croxton on May 13, 1947 in Vernon, TX. He worked as a Highway Patrolman in Hereford, TX and Clarendon, TX. They moved to Memphis, TX in January of 1952 from Clarendon, TX. He then went to work for Cudd Brothers Trucking. He was past Mayor of Memphis for 10 plus years and then became Hall County Judge from 1991 until retiring in 2001. Kenneth was past President and member of the Memphis Lions Club and was a past Fire Chief and member of the Memphis Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he has served as deacon since 1965 until his passing. Kenneth was also a member of the Memphis American Legion where he received his 50 year pin. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Dale and his sisters, Maurine Luttrell and Beth Miller. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Dale of Memphis, TX; his son, Randy Dale and wife Melinda of Belton, TX; his daughter, Cathy Koonce and husband Bob of Katy, TX; four grandchildren, Maj. Brandon Koonce and wife Jamie of Spokane, WA; Jennifer Essary and husband Joshua of Temple, TX; Andrea Huffman and husband Aaron of Del Rio, TX; Whitney Koonce of Houston, TX; two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Declan both of Spokane, WA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 13, 2010 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Hughs Funeral Home, 514 N. 10th St. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 726, Memphis, TX 79245 or Odyssey Healthcare, 6900 I 40 West, Suite 150, Amarillo, TX.
