Services for Doris L. Chumbley, 92, of Canadian, TX will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Canadian, TX with Ben Mathers, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Chumbley died October 7, 2006 in Canadian, TX. She was born on May 13, 1914 in Hill City, KS to the late Mr. George O. Flowers and Mrs. Stella Etta Whitson Flowers. She graduated high school from Reydon, OK. She married William T. Chumbley on November 20, 1932 in Arnett, OK. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1960. She moved to Canadian, TX in 1945 from Compton, CA. She owned and operated Modern Beauty from 1960 until retiring in 1985. Doris was a member of the Sagebrush Painters, the Rebekah Lodge and the First Baptist Church. She was a talented artist and an avid bird watcher as they fed and bathed outside her windows. She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas E. Chumbley, one daughter, Mae Ortega and one granddaughter, Frances Jean Ortega. She is survived by one son, Bill Chumbley and wife Mary of Canyon, TX; one daughter, LoEtta Killgore and husband Don of Chloride, AZ; one sister, Mildred Langley of Liberal, KS; one daughter-in-law, Reta Chumbley of Pampa, TX; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and special friends John and Judy Faus of Canadian, TX.
