January 28, 1982 — November 6, 2006

Memorial services for Miles P. Henderson, 24, of Canadian, TX will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Canadian with Matt Cook, officiating. Services are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Miles passed away on Monday, November 6, 2006 near Balad, Iraq. He was born on January 28, 1982 in Amarillo, TX to Mr. Brad and Terry Henderson. He was a 2000 graduate of Canadian High School. Miles then went on and attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO. His attendance there lasted until his ski lift ticket expired. Since the summer of 1997 until he joined the Army, Miles worked for Amarillo Artificial Limb and Brace employed by two terrific friends, Chad Mason and Don Marks. Along with their families, they loved and mentored Miles during his employment with them. From there Miles enlisted in the United States Army in May of 2003. Miles flew an AH-64 D Apache Longbow with the 82nd Airborne. He served in the Wolf Pack Squadron in the present War with Iraq. Miles married Artis Chester on July 1, 2006 in Ft. Meyers Beach, FL. Anyone who knew Miles knew he loved the Lord with all his heart. He was baptized March 1, 1992 in Midland, MI. Thus, it is no surprise he was an active member of the First Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Artis Henderson of Ft. Meyers Beach, FL; his parents, Brad and Terry Henderson of Canadian, TX, one sister, Deadre Henderson of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, his paternal grandparents, Glenn and Virginia Henderson of Amarillo, TX, maternal grandmother, Bessie Gerken of Canadian, TX, and his great grandmother, Bertie Whitaker of Amarillo, TX. Miles was preceded in death by his grandfather, Howard Gerken. He will be missed by five very close friends Jared Hohertz, Eric Hall, George Peyton, Derek Maupin, and occasional younger substitute Dillon Hohertz. Miles is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and additional friends who loved him very much. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Miles Henderson Scholarship Fund at the First National Bank, 200 Main, Canadian, TX 79014.
