Graveside services for Mr. Wendell B. Cleveland, 88, of Memphis, TX, will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Fairview Cemetery with Robert G. Blum, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Mr. Cleveland passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 in Memphis, TX. Wendell was born September 7, 1922 in Hollis, OK to the late Mr. William Cleveland and Mrs. George Ann (Wright) Cleveland. He was a 1940 graduate of Hollis High School. He also later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. While serving in the service he was a Staff Sergeant and an X-Ray technician. He married Reva Crabb on June 27, 1946 in Childress, TX. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2004. While living in Hollis he worked for Cicero Smith Lumber Company. They moved to Memphis, TX in 1961 from Hollis, OK. He worked for Bartlett’s Lumber & Hardware from 1961 until retiring in 1987. Wendell served as past city councilman and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Altus, OK. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter Gayle Heh and three brothers, Loyd, Clark and Tom Cleveland. He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Smith and husband Sandy of Lakeview, TX; one brother, Glen “Lefty” Cleveland and wife Andy of Abilene, TX; 6 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 726, Memphis, TX 79245 or First United Methodist Church, 121 N 8th St., Memphis, TX 79245.
