Services for Mr. Norman Burton, 92, of Amarillo, TX formerly of Canadian, TX will be at 4:00 P.M. Friday, November 19, 2010 at Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Canadian, TX with Rev. Tom Stribling, officiating and Larry Mote and Darrell Burton, assisting. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Burton passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010 in Amarillo, TX. Norman was born August 18, 1918 in Bard, NM to the late Mr. E.B. Burton and Mrs. Dollie (Starkey) Burton. He attended schools in San Jon, NM. He married Lorene Massey on May 16, 1940 in San Jon, NM. They moved to Claude, TX before they settled in Hemphill County near Canadian, TX. Norman did custom bailing and raised registered Yorkshire hogs and livestock. He served as Hemphill County Commissioner and was a member of various organizations. He was an avid supporter of livestock shows. He was preceded in death by one brother, Cloyd Burton. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lorene Burton of Amarillo, TX; four sons, Dorland Burton and wife Ann of Stratford, TX; Oran Burton and wife Ann of Stinnett, TX; Shelby Burton and wife Sue of Stratford, TX; Duval Burton and wife Shirley of Spearman, TX; two sisters, Mildred Mote and husband Hobart of Broadview, NM; Elsie Wiseman of Vega, TX; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank to staff of Canyon View Estates and Interim Hospice. The family suggest memorials be made to a favorite charity.
