Services for Robert Rogers, 86, of Canadian, Texas, will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 29, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Canadian with Dr. Jerry Golden, officiating and Rev. Justin Coleman, assisting. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, Texas. Mr. Rogers passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, in Canadian, Texas. He was born on September 24, 1920, one mile north of Shattuck, OK on the banks of Wolf Creek to the late Mr. Irwin Rogers and Mrs. Lillie Barnett Rogers. He attended grammar school at Sand Creek and was a 1938 graduate of Lipscomb High School. While in high school Robert was a cartoonist for the school paper called Lipscomb Live Wire. He was active in school sports and played basketball outside on a dirt court. His passions were drawing and fishing. He married Beatrice “Appie” Turner on November 2, 1939. They moved from the farm in Lipscomb, TX to Canadian, TX in 1969. She preceded him in death on October 4, 1975. At the end of World War II, from 1948-1951, Robert got the flying bug and belonged to the Flying Farmers Club. For many years he served on the school board in Lipscomb, TX. He married Lerah Cessna Minton on October 22, 1977. She preceded him in death on September 11, 1994. He married Lenora “Tootsie” Mathis Harrell on September 25, 1999 in Canadian, TX. For the last few years almost every Saturday was spent at the Naturally Yours Gallery in Lipscomb, TX visiting friends and old school chums. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church and in later years the Abundant Life Assembly of God in Canadian, TX. Robert liked to say he had two church homes. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles “Lindy” Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Lenora Rogers of Canadian, TX; one daughter Lana Garner of Canadian, TX; four grandchildren, Leon Graham and wife Carla of Longview, MO; Lillie Stacy and Leora Hilburn and husband Eloy all of Devine, TX and Lorean Rutledge of Comanche, TX; 10 great-grandchildren, Clifford Graham, Seth Graham, Ellen Graham Rhue, Jannica Forman, Kayla Hastings, Skyler Hilburn, Bryan Stacy, Lynda Stacy, Jeff Cochran and Sydney Rutledge, five stepchildren, Sandra Blevins and husband Roy, R.H. Minton, Ray Minton and wife Linda, Don Harrell and wife Carol, Delmar Harrell and wife Sherris and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
