Arline Gertrude Hext

Arline Gertrude Hext, 100, of Canadian, died October 17, 2017 in Canadian.  Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Carmichael-Whatley Canadian Chapel, with Pastor Cawlie Johnson of Higgins Church of the Nazarene, officiating.  Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.  Mrs. Hext was born August 30, 1917 in Perryton to Arthur "Pet" Slavin and Mary Pauline Buckley Slavin.  She graduated from Perryton High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon.  Arline worked in a recruiting office during the depression and then worked for an attorney as a secretary  She married W. R. Hext on April 21, 1943 and they moved to the ranch east of Glazier.  W. R. and Arline moved to Canadian in 1955.  She loved rodeos and especially watching her kids, nieces, nephews and grandkids participate.  Arline was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was known as the "Sunday School Lady" for her many years of teaching.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W. R. Hext; a grandson, Tim Bartlett; two brothers, Don Slavin and Ted Slavin; a sister-in-law, Marilee Slavin; and a nephew, Bob Slavin.Survivors include a daughter, Sue Bartlett and husband Tom of Canadian; a son, Bill Hext and wife Virginia of Canadian; four grandchildren, Stephanie Campell and husband Craig of Dalhart, Kimberly Harland of Elk City, Oklahoma, ShanTil Cooper and husband Colton and Sanja Hext, all of Canadian; and eight great grandchildren, Rhett Meyer, Slavin Meyer, Sawyer Meyer, Tate Harland, Creed Harland, Chaley Hext, Dessa Hext, and Aliza Cooper.Memorials may be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S. 4th, Canadian, Texas  79014.
