Colleen Records Wheeler, 94, of Higgins passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, in Canadian.

 

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Carmichael-Whatley Canadian Chapel with Gary Jahnel, officiating.  A private family inurnment will be in the Ochiltree Cemetery.  Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

 

Colleen Avis Records was born January 6, 1929, in Canadian to Paul & Susie Mae McLelland Records.  She graduated from Perryton High School.  Colleen married Joe Wheeler on March 16, 1964, and settled into being a ranch cowboy’s wife.  They lived on the Dreyfoos Camp and later moved to Commission Creek south of Higgins where they ranched and lived a good life.  Colleen loved raising birds and fishing and enjoyed painting.  Colleen enjoyed visiting with her siblings and once went on an eleven-day Amtrak Train adventure with brother, F.A.  She enjoyed visiting with grandkids and neighbor John Whitsitt, solving the issues of day-to-day life.

 

Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Wheeler; her parents, Paul & Susie Mae Records; sisters, Sudie Reeder, Diddy Correll, Christeen Dendy; and brothers, Paul A. “Jim” Records and F.A. Records.

 

Survivors include son, Obie Callahan and wife Brenda of Higgins; daughter, Judy Longhofer and husband Eddie of Lipscomb County; brother, Rev. George Records and wife Joyce of Vernon; 7 grandchildren, Tobe Callahan & wife Rhonda of Lubbock, Michael Callahan of Woodward, OK, Raven Callahan of Higgins, Krystal Swink of Ponder, Lynn Spence and husband Patrick of Guymon, OK, Lisa Longhofer of Amarillo, Ed Longhofer of Canadian and Jeff Detrixhe of Higgins; 10 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

 

Memorials may be made to Mesa View Senior Living, 106 Teas Circle, Canadian, TX 79014 or Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S. 4th, Canadian, TX 79014.
