Donald Wesley Burch was born June 25, 1940, in Amarillo to C.T. & Mildred Burch.  He graduated from Amarillo High with the class of 1958 and remained a Sandies fan.  Don married Eline Babitzke on December 29, 1962, following a blind date in September at the Tri-State Fair.  They celebrated 60 years together. Don was a member of the NHRA where he set the 1/4-mile record in the class “A/R” in Pomona in 1962. A record that still holds today.  He was one of the top 10 drag racers in the 1962 Hot Rod Magazine. Don was inducted into the Amarillo Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.  As a building contractor Don left his thumbprint on the Canadian and surrounding communities.  Being highly skilled at his craft, many of Don’s customers became lifelong friends.  He was a 4-H leader, Little League Coach for the Cardinals and a 32-year volunteer with the Canadian Volunteer Fire Department. He also loved to cook for his family and his community.   Don was a dedicated Canadian Wildcat fan.  He was also an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.   Don was a family man and loved to “brag” about those he loved.  He was baptized as a child and was proud to rededicate his life to his Lord Jesus just recently.

Don was preceded in death by his parents C.T. and Mildred, a sister, Helen Jester; grandson, Andrew Burch and great granddaughter, Scout Sullivan.
