Dorothea Rose Kelln Morehead Crowell was born on August 27, 1934, in Shattuck, OK, the third daughter of William F. Kelln and Emma Marie Longhofer Kelln. She left from this world at Hemphill County Hospital, Canadian, TX on April 16, 2023. 

 

Memorial Services will be 10:30 am, Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Methodist Church of Canadian with Rev. Lewis Holland and Rev. David Gerhardt, officiating.  The family will have a private family inurnment at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery.  Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

 

Dorothea graduated from Shattuck High School in 1951 at the age of 16. Soon after graduating, the family moved to Oklahoma City, OK, where she and her sister Pauline attended Draughon's Business College. She married Marshall Glen Morehead from Canadian on October 17, 1954, in the home of her older sister, Evelyn and husband Lawrence Pundt of Locust Grove Community in Lipscomb County, TX.  The family grew welcoming three girls, Marsha Jo, Ruthann, and Donna Sue and a son, Marshall Glen “Pete” Morehead,  Jr.

 

The family moved to Canadian the summer of 1969, where Dorothea worked as bookkeeper/secretary for The Fair Store and then Production Credit Association. While raising her children and encouraging their many activities, Dorothea went back to school at night gaining her Certified Professional Secretary degree from Frank Phillips Junior College and West Texas University. After receiving this degree, Dorothea went on to manage Hood Abstract Company until her retirement in 2014.  Organizations and boards served; ESA (Epsilon Sigma Alpha) service sorority, WTSU Opportunity Plan, Salvation Army of Hemphill County board and treasurer, Rotary Club International (Canadian chapter), River Valley Pioneer Museum Board, and Member of First United Methodist Church of Canadian, TX since 1969.

 

Dorothea lost her husband Glen to cancer in 2000 after forty-six years of marriage. 

 

Blessed once again in December 2002, Dorothea married Erbin L. Crowell, Sr. who passed in 2019.

 

Dorothea has been favored over the course of her life by the many family and friends that have surrounded her with unmatched love. With such blessings and love also come losses. Dorothea is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and a brother-in-law, one granddaughter, Emma-Lee Rose Pool, daughter; Ruthann Adkins and son-in-law; Tony Adkins, and niece Elizabeth Ann Pundt Alexander.

 

Survivors include children; Marsha Jo Pool (Randy) of Gun Barrel City, Donna Morehead of Amarillo, and Marshall Glen “Pete” Morehead, Jr. (Tammie) of Canadian, bonus son Jodie Pitcock (Brenda) of King City, MO. grandchildren; Treavor Pool (Lindsay), Trace Pool, Tarynn Pool, Taylor Adkins, William Adkins (Mandi Whitecotton), Jason Adkins, Jamie Reames (Dusten), and Devon Morehead (Brittany); great grandchildren; Jett Pool, Crüz Pool, Utah Adkins, Montana Adkins, Hope Adkins, Austin Adkins, Wyatt Adkins, Shade Walker, Remi Walker, Braylee Adkins, Harper Kate Adkins, Embry Adkins, Chanlee Adcock, Mylee Adcock, Fynlee Adcock, Ryder Morehead, and Jaxon Morehead. Nieces and nephews (and their extended families); Jeri Pundt, Mark Morehead, Melissa Ruehmer, Mollie Wassner, Evelyn Dick, Pam Hough, James T. Cole, Robert Cole, Tim Cole, Susie Dwight, Sandra Graham, Toni Jolly, Jackie Thompson, Melanie Lusk, Melinda Young.

 

She was blessed to share eighteen years with her late husband Erbin L. Crowell, Sr., his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially Erbin "Ted" L. Crowell, III (Kristin) and son Elias, and Mike Crowell (Ny Lynn Nichols-Crowell) and son Connor. 

 

Dorothea’s family wishes to thank Dr. George Cook and the nursing staff of Hemphill County Hospital for their tender care during this difficult time. The family requests that donations be made to the River Valley Pioneer Museum in Dorothea's name.
