Fredrick Justin “Murph” McPherson, 71, of Freer, left for his heavenly home on December 1, 2019 in Houston.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Murph was born on June 10, 1948 in Canadian to Bill and Ethel McPherson. He attended school grades 1-12 in Canadian, and later attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Murph started his working career at a young age in the hay fields with his brother Hank, later cowboying with his uncle Hap Guffey and cousin Stan Guffey. Murph was then a truck driver, contract pumper and foreman for Texas Eastern, and was contract pumping when leukemia hit him in 2015, forcing him to retire. His hobbies were his gun and knife collections, fishing, and his only granddaughter Rilee “Dumpling” Pierce. He loved singing and playing drums with is family and friends.
Murph is survived by his wife, Elda of home, daughter, Dionne “Dee Dee” McPherson of Freer; granddaughter, McKenzie Pierce of Freer; 2 brothers, Hobson McPherson of La Honda, California, and Hank McPherson and wife Venita of Canadian; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Murph was preceded in death by one son, Rodney McPherson and Brother Darrell McPherson.
