Helen Ann Walker

Helen Ann Riley Walker, 90, of Canadian passed away peacefully in Amarillo, Texas on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Mike Martindale and Pastor Barry Loving officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Helen Ann was born on December 28, 1935, in Canadian, to Tom and Jo Helton Riley. She graduated from Canadian High School before attending Oklahoma State University and West Texas State University, where she earned a degree in English and Government Education and received her teaching certificate. Helen dedicated much of her life to education. She began her teaching career in Tulia and eventually taught in Amarillo and Midland where she also coached girls track. She returned to Canadian in 1989. She was able to teach many students through the years and make a lasting impact on their lives. She also enjoyed being a Realtor and helping others find a place to call home.

On August 19, 1955, Helen Ann married L. H. Webb and they had a daughter, Riley. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1957, while serving in the United States Navy. She later married Decator H. Barton, Jr. on January 30, 1959, and they had a son, Richard. On January 19, 1991, she married Glen Bill Walker in Las Vegas, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Glen Bill passed away on April 4, 2017.

Helen Ann was a woman of remarkable independence, grace and determination. A rancher at heart, she loved the beauty and peace of country life on the Riley Ranch. She also treasured every opportunity to travel.

She was a long- time member of First Presbyterian Church in Canadian where she faithfully served. She also enjoyed playing bridge, dancing and watching pro baseball, football and especially the Canadian Wildcats. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Above all else, Helen Ann loved her family. They were the center of her life, and she found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Helen Ann was known for her classy style and fashion, quick wit, feisty personality, wonderful sense of humor, and willingness to help anyone in need. Those who knew Helen Ann will remember her as a strong, caring woman whose kindness and love touched many lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Jo Riley; her husbands, L. H. Webb, Dick Barton and Glen Bill Walker; sisters, Kathleen Martindale and Sharon Lusk and other loved ones who welcomed her into heaven.

Helen Ann is survived by a daughter, Riley Rood and husband Eddie of Carrollton and Canadian; a son, Richard Barton of Carrollton; granddaughters, Kelly Staples and husband Garrett of Dallas and Jo Reinker of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Staples and Calvin Staples; a sister-in-law, Zelda Pedergrass; and numerous nieces and nephews including Mike Martindale, Leslie Martindale, Bob Lusk, Steve Lusk, Kelly Caccia, Dawn Webb Wilson, L.H. Webb, Trey Webb, Buddy Webb, Janette Davis and Decata Isbell, George Pendergrass and Zeborah Hardin. She will be especially missed by her beloved dog, Sophie.

The family will forever cherish Helen Ann's love, wisdom, strength, humor and unwavering devotion. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she influenced, the family she adored, and the countless memories shared by all who were blessed to know her.
