Jean Estell Ross

Jean Estell Ross, 84, of Canadian, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family and the quiet comfort of her loyal little dog, Taize Mae.

Memorial graveside will be 11:30 AM, Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Washita Cemetery with Pastor Donald Hill, pastor of The River Ministries, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Canadian on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 PM.

Jean was born in 1941, raised in Southern Oklahoma. Jean grew up with the strong roots, warm community, and steady values that shaped her entire life. She graduated from Madill High School in 1959 before building a life across several towns in southern Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle, ultimately making her home in Canadian, Texas.

Jean was a gifted creator with a generous spirit. She poured her heart into sewing for family, friends, and entire communities; crafting and altering band uniforms, costumes, and everyday clothing with meticulous care. She became especially cherished for her work on prom dresses and wedding dresses, stitching beauty, confidence, and celebration into milestone moments for countless young women. Her hands were rarely still; she found joy in crocheting thoughtful gifts, designing sewn crafts, and exploring the gentle art of watercolor painting. Every stitch, brushstroke, and handmade treasure carried her warmth.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Imogene Thomas, and her brother, Nick Thomas.

She is survived by; son, Tim Ross and wife Julie; daughter, Tracie Peterson; granddaughters, Tylar Acker and husband Chad, Tiffany Baldwin and husband Bryant, Tobie Peterson, and Tatum Peterson. She also leaves behind great grandsons; Major Acker, Grady Acker, Tucker Baldwin, Dallan Acker, and Tatum Baldwin each one a bright thread in the legacy she lovingly stitched together. Jean is also lovingly survived by her nieces and nephews, who each carry treasured memories of her kindness, creativity, and steady presence.

Jean’s life was defined by creativity, generosity, and devotion to the people she loved. Her memory will continue to live on in the beautiful things she made, the special dresses she crafted for life’s biggest celebrations, and the many hearts she touched.
