Jim Martin, 66, of Canadian, TX passed away November 3, 2019 in Oklahoma City, OK.

Memorial graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemeteries in Canadian, with Pastor Andy Taylor of Trinity Fellowship in Sayre, OK, officiating.  Cremation and arrangements under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian, TX.

Jim was born July 23, 1953 in Canadian to Clarence E. & Etta Rankin Childress.  As a child he attended the First Baptist Church with his family. Jim attended Canadian schools and graduated High School with the class of 1971.  He served with the Texas National Guard for 5 years. Jim won numerous bareback riding championships; he rode for the Tulsa Twister Pro Rodeo Team and the Kansas City Wrangler Pro Rodeo Team.  Jim was a member of the Central States Rodeo Association and the International Pro Rodeo Association.

Jim never met a stranger and didn't shy away from having a good time.  As many of his friends can attest, he enjoyed telling stories of his rodeo career and fishing skills. He will be missed by family and many great friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Etta Childress, Liz Baxter and a brother Jerry Martin.

Survivors include his companion, Terry South of Glazier; son, Matt Martin and wife Karen of Edmond, OK;  2 brothers, Larry Martin and wife Norma, Shaffer Baxter and wife Susie all of Canadian; 2 nephews, Jason Martin and wife Callie Anne and Shawn Baxter; 2 nieces, Janie Shields, and Heather Helms and husband Cody.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canadian Rodeo Association, PO Box 311, Canadian, Texas 79014; or favorite charity of your choice.
