Lynard Schafer, 84, of Canadian, passed away April 13, 2020 in Canadian.

Due to current health conditions and government regulations for small gatherings, there will be a private family graveside service.  Rev. Lewis Holland and Rev. David Gerhardt will officiate.  Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Lynard G. Schafer was born April 5, 1936 in Higgins to Willie and Lola Guffey Schafer.  He attended Canadian High School and graduated with the class of 1954.  He served with the United States Coast Guard.  Lynard married Glenna Yarnold on December 22, 1956.  Together they owned and operated Schafer Services. Lynard was an active member of the Canadian First United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities and committees.  He loved his community and actively served the community.  Lynard was proud to serve Hemphill County as a County Commissioner and as a board member of the Canadian Independent School District.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth.

Lynard is survived by his wife, of 66 years, Glenna of the home;  sons, Steve Schafer of Borger, Mike Schafer and wife Sandy of Plainview, Dale Schafer and wife Karen of Canadian, Terry Schafer and wife Missy of Wheeler, Ronnie Schafer of Canadian and friend Amy Bibler of Quanah; grandchildren, Lauren and Benjamin Conner of Borger, Nathan and Tessa Schafer of Wichita Falls, Matthew Schafer of Benton, Arkansas, Samantha Schafer of Oklahoma City, Will and Mackenzie Schafer of Sweetwater, Matt and Crystal Wessel of Canadian, and Joseph and Moriah Paulk of Amarillo; great grandchildren, Benson, Emery, Piper, Jerzy, Daxton, Huntleigh, Thea and Leon; brothers, Billy and Sue Schafer, Jimmy and Mary Lynn Schafer, and sister-in-law, LaVerta Schafer.
