Mark Steve Meek, 70, of Briscoe, passed away on April 17. 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Services will be at 2:30pm on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Fort Elliott High School Auditorium with Erron Mercer, Bruce Johnson & Ricky Pfeil officiating. Burial will follow in Gageby Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Mark Steve Meek was born on June 24, 1951, in Wheeler Texas to Jack Edward and Evelyn (Vise) Meek. He graduated as Valedictorian at Briscoe High School in 1969. He attended Texas Tech then transferred to West Texas State University to earn his Bachelor of Science in Plant Science in 1973. His crop judging team won the chance to compete in Kansas City & Chicago his senior year. Mark married Annette Helton on August 15, 1971. After they both graduated from college, they returned home to Hemphill County where Mark has farmed & raised cattle ever since. Mark & Annette celebrated their 50th Anniversary in August 2021.
Along with farming & ranching, Mark was a public servant in many capacities. He served his churches as a board member for over 42 years. He was a Bible teacher for children and adults his whole life. For over 35 years, he was the host of a live Christian radio program, Sunday Night Live. He also served on the Hemphill County Soil & Water Conservation board for 16 years and the Hemphill County Water District board as President for 13 years. He then was elected Hemphill County Commissioner Precinct 3 for 2 terms (2009 - 2016). He was a man of great knowledge on many subjects, always searching for wisdom to help others. His favorite pastime was visiting with friends & family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Saundra Meek & Lana Meek; brother, J. Michael Meek; grandparents, Edward & Ether Meek and Gaddy & Ina Vise.
Mark is survived by his wife, Annette; son, Kaleb Meek and wife Marti of Edmond OK; daughter, Jocelyn Timmons and husband Jarrod of Canadian TX; grandchildren, Blake, Savanna, Nikolas & Klayton Meek and Avery & Emery Timmons; sister, Kathy Meek.
In lieu of flowers, the family desires for you to use that money to show someone else the Love of God. Whether that be taking a friend for lunch, recognizing potential in a person, or supplying a need for someone. Think how Mark would have treated you and do the same for others.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.
