Patricia Dianne Mingus

September 25, 1942 — January 27, 2020

Patricia Dianne Mingus, 77, of Higgins passed away on January 27, 2020.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday Jan 29, 2020, at Higgins Nazarene Church with the Rev. Mert Cooper officiating. The burial will follow in Emmons Cemetery, Ellis County, Oklahoma under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Pat was born Sept 25, 1942 in Wolf Point, MT to Wilbur and Edna (Kettner) Mann. She attended country school and then Wolf Point High School, graduating in 1960.  Pat received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Montana State College in 1964.  During her clinical training in Great Falls, Montana she met Joe Mingus who was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base.  Pat’s independent spirit led her to practice nursing in San Jose, California and Houston, Texas, where she married Joe on September 17, 1966.  They moved to Amarillo, Texas where she worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital and gave birth to their first-born son, Timothy.  Pat and Joe made their home in Higgins, Texas where she practiced nursing at the Hemphill County Hospital and gave birth to two more children, Chad and Julie.  She later worked 30 years as a registered nurse at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Oklahoma, while raising her family and helping Joe operate the family full-service gas station business. Both Joe and Pat were actively involved in scouting where Pat volunteered as a girl scout leader for many years.  She retired in 2007 from nursing and enjoyed being home, working in the yard, and playing with her grandchildren before coming to live at the Edward Abraham Memorial Home in 2012.

Pat’s love of Jesus and her family were evident in her life.  She always had a great big smile to share and could often be heard proclaiming “What a blessing” and lifting up those around her by saying, “You’re a blessing.”  In fact, we are the ones who have been truly blessed to know Pat and her loving spirit and to have her as a part of our lives.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents Wilbur and Edna, her mother-in-law Louise “Hobby” Mingus, a sister Sherry Kathleen, her sisters-in-law Fran Mann and Linda Mingus Robinson, her brother-in-law Jerry Mingus, nephews Shawn Mann, Jimmy Mann, and Sam McClelland.

Pat is survived by her children  - Tim Mingus of Higgins, Chad Mingus and his wife Kimberly of Perryton, Julie Cooper and her husband Clay of Higgins in addition to her brother Johnny Mann of Bozeman MT, 6 grandchildren: Kalli Moore of Amarillo, Cameron, Olivia, and Colton of Higgins, Elizabeth and Brooklynn of Perryton, a brother-in-law, JB Mingus and wife Covett and several nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Edward Abraham Memorial Home, 803 Birch, Canadian, TX 79014
