Peggy Lanell Davis, 93, of Canadian, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at The River Ministries in Canadian, with Pastor Mike Martin of South Georgia Baptist Church, Amarillo, officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Peggy was born on September 4, 1932, to Charlie Clement and Vera Mae Pearlie Thompson Clement at her grandmother's home in Collingsworth County. She spent her childhood in Plymouth and Shamrock and attended school in Samnorwood and Shamrock.
On July 9, 1950, Peggy married the love of her life, Donald Duane Davis. They shared 62 years of a devoted and loving marriage before Don passed in 2012. Their relationship was a testament to love, respect, and unwavering commitment. After Don's service in Korea, the couple lived in Dallas and Amarillo, later settled in White Deer, where they became active members of the community.
In 1969, Don and Peggy moved to Canadian, where Don worked at First State Bank and Peggy continued her cherished role as a homemaker. They were members of First Baptist Church. After Don's retirement, they traveled extensively across the United States in their motorhome, eventually spending six months each year in Tucson, AZ. They later moved to Amarillo. In December 2021, Peggy returned to Canadian residing at Mesa View Assisted Living, where she deeply appreciated the loving care and friendships she found there.
Peggy had a gift for turning every house into a warm, welcoming home. She was a talented seamstress and an exceptional baker, well known for her cream pies-especially her peanut butter pies. For over 50 years, her cookies, peanut brittle, fudge, coffee, and hot cocoa were a fixture at football games in both White Deer and Canadian. At Christmastime, she joyfully made and shared countless batches of her famous peanut brittle with bank employees, directors, and friends.
She and Don took up golf later in life, especially after Don helped construct the Canadian Golf Course. Peggy became an active member of the Ladies Golf Association in Canadian and enjoyed many days on the course with friends.
Peggy and Don's life together was rich in friendship and community, values they lovingly passed on to their family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Vera Clement; her beloved husband, Don Davis; and her sister, Charlene Brashears.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Don Davis and wife Judy of Hot Springs Village, AR; her daughter, Sondra Hill and husband Donald of Canadian; Brother and Sister In Law, Ralph and Emma Davis; grandchildren; Aaron Davis and wife Amy of Prosper, Betsy Reynolds of Panhandle, Marcus Davis and wife Whitney of Pottsboro, Ben Hill and wife Brittney of Sayre, OK; and Drew Hill and wife Kathy of Canadian.
She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren: Karis Davis, Blake Davis, Wyatt Porter, Marli Reynolds, Josh Davis, Miles Reynolds, Channing Hill, Kennedy Davis, Kai Davis, Nash Hill, Archie Davis, and Ava Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mesa View Assisted Living, 1 Teas Circle, Canadian, TX 79014 or Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S 4th, Canadian, TX 79014.
