Peggy Jean Proctor Page, 88, of Higgins, Texas, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Canadian, Texas with her daughter by her side.

 

No services are scheduled at this time. Per Peggy’s wishes, her body was donated to the Texas Tech Willed Body Program. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

 

Peggy Jean Proctor Page was born December 13, 1934 to Jewel Wesley Proctor and Zelma Wilson Proctor in Noland County, Texas.  She was the last of nine children. She obtained her GED and then continued on to nursing school in Sweetwater, Texas. During this time, she met and then married her husband, Dale, in 1954. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1998. Their son, Barney Dale was born in 1955, and first daughter Tonja Sue in 1958. They moved around the State of Texas with Dale’s job and then eventually moved to Higgins in 1961. Their second daughter, Mickie Elaine, was born in 1966.

 

Peggy was a nurse for many years, working at Abraham Memorial Home, Shattuck Nursing Home, and Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Oklahoma. She also spent time later working for home health agencies and then after she retired, she worked as a caretaker. 

 

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; 4 sisters, Sylnett Jones, Ealan Seto, Billie Gresham and Pherba Lake; 3 brothers, Elza Proctor, Clay Proctor, and Pete Proctor; and son, Barney on April 27, 2000.

 

Survivors include a sister, Alice Ashley of Brownwood; 2 daughters, Tonja Page of Kemp, and Mickie Woods and husband Matt of Longdale, OK; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-granddaughters. 

 

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nursing staff at Fairview Regional Medical Center, Dr. Culwell, staff at Hemphill County Hospital and Hospice, Carrie, Monica, Lauren, Heather, Lyndsy, Victoria, and Jodi.
