Phyllis Ann Blanscet Amerson

January 3, 1939 — March 30, 2022

Phyllis Anne Blanscet Amerson, 83, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in Baird, Texas.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Carmichael-Whatley Canadian Chapel with Rev. Lewis Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Phyllis was born on January 3, 1939, in Delhi, Oklahoma to Herb and Hazel Blanscet. She graduated from Sunray High School and attained a Master’s in Education from West Texas State University. Phyllis was a teacher at Rex Reeves Elementary in Canyon, Texas from 1975-1987, then married Joe Amerson, whereupon they relocated to Canadian. She taught at Baker Elementary in Canadian, beginning in 1987, retiring in 2002. She relocated to the Abilene area in January of 2021 to be near family.

Phyllis enjoyed teaching and working with children, traveling to the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado, spending time with family, attending rodeos, working with animals, and conducting genealogy research. She was a fierce supporter of her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Amerson; son, Dennis Goettsch; and grandson, Terry Goettsch.

Phyllis is survived by son, Greg Goettsch and wife Gina of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Gayle Chandler and husband Troy of Madelia, Minnesota, Paden Goettsch and wife Lindsi and Wyatt Goettsch and wife Haley of Abilene, Texas; 6 great-grandsons; and one nephew and two nieces.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the attentive staff of Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation of Baird, Texas, as well as the staff of Hendrick Hospice of Abilene, Texas.
