Robert "Bob" Floyd Nelson

Robert “Bob” Floyd Nelson, 70, of Higgins gained his angel wings on March 31, 2021 at his home.

Memorial graveside service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, April 10, 2021 in Higgins Cemetery with Ron Braun, of Wichita, Kansas, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Robert was born October 21, 1950 in Aurora, Nebraska to Floyd and Josephine Braun Nelson. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1969. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Vickie Lee, on February 7, 1970. They recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. Together they had two daughters, Stacy and Erin.

Bob was a football fanatic, playing in junior high and high school. He was proud of the fact that he never played in a losing game. Bob, along with his 68-69 football team, was inducted into the Nebraska High School Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

Bob was a member of Aurora United Methodist Church and re-affirmed his faith in 2019.

Bob started working for TransWestern Pipeline at the Pampa plant in 1977. In 1978, he transferred to Higgins taking the job of measurement technician. He went through many company name changes through the years, and finally retired in June 2020 from Energy Transfer. He Worked 43 years in the gas gathering industry. Bob did his civic duty by serving on the Higgins School Board and served as a City Councilman.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; beloved sister, Sharon Fonda of Omaha, NE; his father-in-law, Pat Lee; his mother-in-law, Betty Lee.

Survivors include his loving wife, Vickie of the home; 2 daughters, Stacy Benge and husband Brad of Canton, Oklahoma and Erin Seliz and husband Jeff of Adrian, Michigan; 3 granddaughters, Jordan Rector and husband Dave of Bushland, Hannah Lane and husband Chase of Amarillo, and Courtney Hazle and husband Darin of Canton, Oklahoma; 3 great grandchildren, Colt Hazle, Brielle Lane, and Adyson Rector; his godson, Greg Fonda of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 brothers, Gary Gerdes and wife Lisa of Nebraska and Steve Gerdes and wife Audrey of Nebraska; brother-in-law, Bill Fonda of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law (he considered brother), Kenneth Nickel of Lefors; 3 step granddaughters, 1 step grandson, 2 step great granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials can be sent to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S 4th Street, Canadian, Texas 79014.
